Your Settings page enables you to control and customize certain aspects of WikiTree. It is accessible through the "My WikiTree" pull-down menu.

Here are explanations for a few of the settings. Most are explained on other help pages, e.g. Help:Enhanced Editor, Help:Profile Previews, and Help:Genealogist Sections.

Middle Name Warning

Unlike some genealogy websites and tools, we have Middle Name fields here on WikiTree. If you enter two names in a First Name field, e.g. "Mary Ellen", you will see a warning that asks if one is a Middle Name.

Some cultures do not have middle names at all, and therefore certain members do not need to see the Middle Name Warning. If you select this setting, it will be turned off.

Location Style Note

WikiTree uses standardized location name suggestions from a database at Family Search. When you start to enter a location name, you will generally see these suggestions.

It is important to know that you do not need to select one of the suggested location names. On WikiTree we aim to enter to enter location names that people used in their own time and language. See Location Fields for more information.

Once you have seen this style note you can disable it. If you prefer to see it again, you can change the setting on your Settings page.
