Your Settings page enables you to control and customize certain aspects of WikiTree. It is accessible through the "My WikiTree" pull-down menu.
Here are explanations for a few of the settings. Most are explained on other help pages, such as Help:Enhanced Editor, Help:Profile Previews, and Help:Genealogist Sections.
Some cultures do not have middle names, and therefore some members find themselves constantly needing to set "no middle name" indicators on profiles.
If you check your setting for "Hide Middle Names":
- The Middle Name field will not appear when creating new profiles.
- The "no middle name" status indicator will automatically be set for new profiles.
- If you import a GEDCOM, our system will not attempt to separate compound first names into our separate First Name and Middle Name fields.
Location Style Note
WikiTree uses standardized location name suggestions from a database at Family Search. When you start to enter a location name, you will generally see these suggestions.
It is important to know that you do not need to select one of the suggested location names. On WikiTree we aim to enter to enter location names that people used in their own time and language. See Location Fields for more information.
Once you have seen this style note you can disable it. If you prefer to see it again, you can change the setting on your Settings page.
