A Team Captain is a member who leads or co-leads a team in our challenges.
What is a Team Captain
Teams add to the feeling of friendly competition. They enable us to cheer each other on and make challenges more social and fun.
Teams can be organized around anything. Anything. They could be location-based, for a popular surname, related to a project, around a specific Data Doctor suggestion or error group, or whatever strikes you as fun.
As a captain, you should:
- Create a free-space profile for your team. You can find examples of other teams' pages here.
- Recruit for your team by replying to members who post on the register messages. If they share your interests, ask if they'll join your team.
- Start a chat post in G2G for your team to use during the challenge.
- Communicate with team members during the event to answer questions, encourage participation and cheer on the group.

How the Badge is Removed
If you are no longer able to be a team captain, please contact Eowyn @ eowyn@wikitree.com so she can remove it.
Also if a Team Captain is being mentored or involved in a conflict escalation their Team Captain badge will be removed. That member can be reconsidered for Team Captain 3 months after their mentoring or conflict resolution situation has been resolved.
