Help:Trail Guides
Categories: WikiTree Help | Project Leader Help
A Trail Guide leads a special orientation program for new members of a project.
A Trail Guide is a volunteer who helps new project members develop the core skills to contribute to the project’s goals.
Being a Trail Guide is all about communication, coordination and education.
Trail Guides may teach things such as:
- Writing biographies, adding citations, and meeting WikiTree's styles and standards.
- Naming conventions for the time period or location of the project.
- How to add relevant Categories and Stickers.
- Research sources.
How Trail Guides are Chosen
Trail Guides volunteer to help, or a Project Leader, Coordinator, or Team Leader might approach them about taking on the role.
Trail Guides should be in good standing in the WikiTree community. (Leaders should check the mentoring archives before giving someone the Trail Guide role and badge. Having notes there does not necessarily prevent someone from being a Trail Guide, but should be considered. If a Trail Guide is later being Mentored, their badge may be removed.)
