(OBIT: Robert E. Hemingway, 87, died unexpectedly Jan. 24, 2003, at a Caribou hospital. He was born in Norwich, N.Y., May 24, 1915, the son of Albert and Louise (Seamans) Hemingway.
Bob grew up in Liverpool, N.Y. He was a graduate of the University of Maine at Orono, Class of 1939. Bob taught for a short time after graduation. He then worked for GLF Corp. in New York State. In 1950, he joined John Deere Co. as a territory manager for Aroostook County. In 1975, he re-entered public education in Caribou. Later he became Student Service coordinator for the Vocational School in Caribou until his retirement in 1980. Active in community affairs, Bob was a past member of the Caribou Rotary Club and past president of Sportsmen's Inc. He was a member of SCORE and a 50-year Mason of Caribou Lodge No. 170 AF & AM. Bob was a longtime devoted member of the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church, and was past president of the United Methodist Men's Fellowship.
He is survived by his wife, Eunice R. (McCrossin) Hemingway of Caribou; one son, Robert M. Hemingway and his wife Gail of Zephyrhills, Fla.; one daughter, Duska Franklin and her husband, Jeff, of Caribou; two stepsons, Gary McCrossin and his wife, Barbara, of Woodland; Paul McCrossin and his wife, Linda, of Presque Isle; one sister, Ruth Norris, of Fairport, N.Y.; three grandsons, Jordan Franklin of Veazie, Shawn Hemingway of Manlius, N.Y., Greg Hemingway of Cockeysville, Md.; two granddaughters, Deidra Miller of Conestoga, Pa., and Debra Vanderpoel of South Hadley, Mass.; and four great-grandchildren, Kristen Hemingway, Timothy Hemingway, William Vanderpoel, and Megan Vanderpoel.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Arline (Morgan) Hemingway in 1984; and one brother, James, in 2001.
Robert is buried at the Evergreen Cemetery, Caribou, Maine.
