Samuel was the son of Richard and _____ (Rose) Heming.[1] He was under 8 years of age when his father's will was written in 1720.[1] He inherited a plantation named "Little Thickets" in St. Ann, Jamacia.
His father's will stipulated that, "My yst. son Sam. my cowpenn in St. Annes called the little Thickets and all my lands within 2 miles round. My 1st son Richd to settle a sugar work there before Sam. is 20 and clear 150 a. whereof 80 to be planted for canes, 20 for a plantin walk and 50 for pasturage, and 50 working slaves, 24 steers and 20 mules be put thereon. I give him also £1000 c. at 20 and £40 a year till 8 years of age, £50 till 15 and £150 a year till 20."[1]
In 1754, he was noted for owning 2,098 acres in St. Anne parish.[2]
