Will: 15 JAN 1885 - McDowell County, North Carolina, United States. Note: State of North Carolina McDowell County. In the year of Our Lord eighteen hundred and eighty five January 15th. This day I make my will and my will is that I give to my wife Matilda all my land and all of my chattel property during her lifetime and then to my heirs to be equally divided, if there be any land of chattel property that she may be willing to be sold sooner sell it and divide it equally with all my heirs. Though before there is any division made I give my daughter Margaret one hundred dollars more than any of the rest, then an equal part with the rest. I also give my wife Matilda two hundred dollars in money at my death if it be on hand, and if not on hand collect it out of my notes and give it over to her, and if she has it on hand at her death then equally divided with all my heirs. I also appoint my sons Thomas Lafayett Hemphill & William Hemphill executors to my will, and to pay over to my daughter Harriett's ones as they come of age thare (sic) part of her part that she would of got if she was now alive, and also to collect and pay over all money that may come into his hands and pay all of my debts if any.
