In 1901, he chose to leave Halland for faith in a better future in the United States. His sister Alida took the same decision in 1893, when only 16 years old.
His mother died from unknown reasons. His father later married Britta Johanna Karlsdotr.
Note: Wally would go hunting with his grampa when he was little but was too small to carry a gun. Alfred`s birth date may not be correct. FYI: Name in Sweden was Johan Henrikkson. His Swedish Henriksson became the American Henderson because it was easier to pronounce and wanted American name. He was married and had sons Arthur and Walter. Walter was in turn his son Walter Junior which was daughter Jenifer, is Ulf Molunds contact in general.
Many Swedes changed their names upon arrival in the United States, whether for the sake of convenience of spelling, or the desire to anglicize their names, or the need to drop Swedish names that in English had a peculiar sound or a derogatory meaning.
Alfred had two siblings. Alidas was biological sibling with same mother of a name we do not know (we found out later his first wife and mother of Alfred and Alida was Johanna Brita Niklasdotter), and a half sister named Emma whose mother was named Britta Johanna.
Found information regarding mass immigration of Swedes in the years 1901+
Johan was 21 at the time when new law required service of all Swedish men had been changed to increase the mandatory time from 90 days to 240. An untold number of young men chose to leave for better prospects in North America, rather than fulfill that longer service. The ages of eligibility were twenty-one to thirty-two.
