Biography

A Bible record cited by researcher Terry Mason on his site^[1] states the following: Sarah E. Thomas - Her Bible, the daughter of ______ Thomas

• Dennis Thomas was born August the twenty second 1801
• Jerusha Thomas was born August the tenth 1802
• Isaac Thomas was born the twentieth of January 1821
• William Thomas was born November the fifth 1823
• Mary (?) Elizabeth Thomas was born December the first 1825
• Dennis B. Thomas was born the 31 day of May 1830

The internment of a "J. H. Thomas" in Sevier County is included in a grave relocation survey; this is believed to be Jerusha; however, the survey notes that the grave was not one of those relocated. If so, the marker may still be at Jones Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery. (A photo request of FindaGrave volunteers has been made.)

Jerusha is named as Jerusha Henderson in daughter Jerusha's death record.^[2]

Jerusha was last recorded in the 1860 census, and in 1868 her husband remarried. In the 1860 census, Jerusha is described as "insane".

It is not known when or where Jerusha and Dennis married. Dennis' father died in Sevier County in 1818, around the earliest time that she may have married Dennis. Of possible interest is the Mary Henderson in the 1830 census, age 50-59, as a potential mother or close relative of Jerusha's.
