Note
Note: On the census, he is always listed as a farmer. I will say that my grandmother, granddaughter of Oscar Henderson, could remember going to Taylorsville for the funeral of Lue Buford Henderson. Of course my grandmother was only nine or so years old...but she could remember that Oscar was very quiet...sat in a chair the whole time...and had a long white beard. She also remembered there being many horses. Her impression was that there were more horses than you would normally see on regular old "dirt" farm...so maybe Oscar raised horses?? Of course that's not John S. Henderson...but...since he was living with Oscar...maybe Oscar had just taken over the farm when John S. retired. I will also mention that it appears that John's wife's father, John Black, ran a decent sized general mercantile in SC. It seems that he did "very well"...so I wouldn't think that his daughter would have married a "plain old dirt farmer"...implying that maybe the Henderson's had a little status.
