NOTE: From McCall-Tidwell & Allied Families, pg 527. Joseph Henderson and Isabella Adelphia Lea had a daughter named Isabella Graves Henderson who married Joshua Callaway and another daughter named Adelphia Henderson who married Richard Poteet. Be careful. Many online trees have these two women conflated.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Joseph by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA test-takers in his direct paternal line. Mitochondrial DNA test-takers in the direct maternal line: It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Joseph:

The Find a Grave Memorial for both Joseph Henderson and wife Adelphia "Delphia" Lea are wrong. I have requested corrections but keep an eye on them. Right now they have Joseph Henderson connected to two wives. He is also said to have been born in NC and that is wrong. He was born in Virginia.

Thank you, Mary

Making the bio more readable. No major changes were made. Some inline sources were moved to the bottom and can be reinserted if really necessary. Don't trust any sources from Albert Casey's work.

Re: Capt. Joseph Henderson, RWS. Joseph is one of my approved DAR Patriots. I believe he may be found by using North Carolina, although his service was listed as described. His birth listing of Danville, VA originated from Patrick M. Stevens, a descendant of Isabella Bankston who married Isaiah Tucker Irvin. Pat recently passed away and buried in Arlington, Cemetery, therefore I cannot verify that record source. I believe Joseph HENDERSON married Adelphia Lea in Orange County, NC, instead of Orange County, VA, because that was Adelphia’s home. So that is one more potential correction to add to Joseph’s history. Adelphia was the daughter of James Lea of Country Line Creek, Orange County, NC in 1758. I am sitting in the GA Archives searching for Joseph’s probate records and a will. Occasionally I see a listing that he named his wife in his will. If someone has a valid source citation (Book and page) please notify me. Thank you. Joseph Hendrson DAR Patriot service approved was for Civil Service. HENDERSON, JOSEPH Ancestor

Thanks for the information. I changed the marriage location. If anyone can find actual documentation for the marriage location, please provide it to us.

I am descended from Joseph Jr. and son, Simeon Henderson from Wilkes Co, Georgia. It states on this site that no one in the direct paternal line has taken a Y-DNA test. Are there other Y-chromosome tests connected to this site? My brother, P. David Henderson took a FTDNA Y-37 DNA test recently. I am new to DNA and not sure how to upload the test results. Haplogroup R-M269...which is a large group the Henderson Society is still working on, but could potentially 'weed' out other lines. Would someone be willing to assist me? I am not new to genealogy, but picking it back up after retiring. Ancestry has lost my 'tree' after so many years. So will have to start anew. I am trying not to create duplicate profiles - so am hoping to tie into Joseph Jr. and adding his son, Simeon, listed in Joseph's will as being deceased. Thank you!
Please recheck the DAR sources that you say do not show a record. I went into DAR on his record, so something is not correct in that statement. Thanks, Mary

Waitaminute. If this is Joseph son of John, his mother was Sarah. How did Margaret Bruce, a Scotswoman, get in here? And if this is Joseph of Wilkes Co., his wife was Delphia Lea. Who is the Elizabeth Keeling. Is this a merge gone bad?
posted by Christine Henderson
I disconnected the Keeling and Bruce references. Not related to Joseph Henderson of Wilkes, Georgia. Not sure what happened but obvious errors.

Larry, neither Danville nor Pittsylvania existed at the time of Joseph's birth, and it is a long way from Spottsylvania/Orange VA. Do you know where this info comes from?

Henderson-2037 and Henderson-4908 appear to represent the same person because: Hello all, these two ancestors are the same person. Unfortunately, I have a duplicate Joseph that I need to merge as well! Thanks, Larry

Larry, this profile duplicates Henderson-2037.
