Death and Burial

Died: 8 Nov 1794, Rowan County, North Carolina, USA

Burial: Stephen Hendren Family Cemetery, Brushy Mountain Township, Wilkes, North Carolina, USA [6]

John was born in 1712. He passed away in 1794. He and his brother William, b. 1712, came to Richmond County, Virginia. William had been a weaver's apprentice in Ireland. When they came to America, William indentured himself to the widow Howell and later married her daughter Annorah. I believe John might have been indentured to the Glasscock family; he was acquainted with them, even later in NC.

About 1741 John and Margaret Ann moved to Prince William Co., now Fauquier Co. VA, where he had a tobacco plantation until 1766. He was also possibly a weaver. In his will he leaves his looms to his daughter Nancy.

In 1741, John Hendren, Peter Glascock & William Glascock, witnessed a deed for Owen & Mary Lord in Prince William Co., VA He had a least one slave, Delia, mentioned in Nov 1752 in the P.W. Co. Minute Book. in 1743 John witnessed a deed for Peter and Jane Glascock on Slaty Run in P.W. Co. Peter Glascock witness a deed for John & Margaret and their son William (a child) for land on Slaty Run, 8 Jul 1743.

Sometime in 1782, Peter Glascock and his family left for Rowan Co., NC, along with other families in Fauquier Co., VA. I believe John Hendren was one of those. (I'm not sure about that date; there were Glascocks in the Dutchmans Creek area by 1774).

On 4 Nov 1784 the State (of NC) grants (at 50 shillings the 100 acres) to John Hendren, 519 acres on Dutchman's Creek, near Henry Railback and Gregory Glascock.

On 12 aug 1786 there was a deed from John Hendren to Stephen Noland fo 263 1/2 acres of land on Dutchman's Creek. (There was a Hendren's Branch in that area.)

In 1787 John bought 100 acres on Dutchman's Creek in Rowan (now Davie) Co., NC.

John's will was proven in Rowan Co., NC on 6 Nov 1794 by James Noland and witness by (among others) Stephen Noland, his son- in- law.

Buried in the Stephen Hendren Family Cemetery, Wilkes Co., NC F.A.G. paper states John was a weaver and tatter of lace. [7][8]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with John by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with John:

Under the children, #3 - Mary Hendren married Stephen NOLAND. It was written as Roland in a Find A Grave article. These two were my ancestors. One person commented that Stephen and Mary were not given anything in John Hendren's will. Research will show them that John had given them over 200 acres of land before he died. Also, Stephen was a witness to John's will.

Somewhere, someone, started putting Richmond & Wise in Virginia together. Richmond County is in the Northern Neck of Virginia (between the Potomac and Rappahannock Rivers. Wise County is in the far western corner of Virginia and was not settled as early as Richmond County.,

Many people use the name Esial in connection with John's mother. I have never seen that in any records I have researched; with are usually books.

Hendren-518 and Hendren-251 appear to represent the same person because: Another duplicate
Hendren-393 and Hendren-251 appear to represent the same person because: This appears to be the same person: same birth and death dates, married to the same woman (already under merge), and father of the same person (previously merged).
