Research Notes
Is he the Peter Henion, age 70, who died at Auburn Prison (Auburn, New York) on 23 May 1873? He had been convicted of burglary, 3rd degree, in sessions court in Orange County, New York, on 28 May 1872, and was sentenced to 3 years.[5] Two records of his imprisonment are on Ancestry.com. One record indicates that he died (apparently in prison) on 23 May 1873.[6] Another version of the record indicates that he was discharged from Auburn Prison (Auburn, New York) on 23 May 1873 after serving his sentence, and that his sentence was for 3 months. (This appears to be a data entry error by a clerk who entered the years in the "months" column.) According to that record he was 5 ft 10 inches tall, and his occupation before prison was "Gardner."[7]

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Peter by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA.
However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line.
It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Peter:
I don't think that all of the military records compiled here are for the same man. It is not credible that a man about age 60 was a private in the infantry in the Civil War.
They aren't. I will take this weekend to review this profile. He is my 3rd great grandfather and not all this information is accurate. I took over being the manager but haven't cleaned it up yet. He also has a son named Peter so it could be confusion. I have removed them. As for the research notes question: I have seen those records and found news articles but I haven't found a prison record for the son that allegedly did this with him so I am waiting for more concrete information.
