The train started from Omaha, Nebraska July 12, 1863 and as he was assigned the last position in the train in the train, he experienced a very dusty journey. They averaged about eleven miles per day and arrived at their destination on October 12, being just 100 days on the road. he continued in the employ of Roberts & Grover and took a load of supplies to the mines at Virginia City, Montana.
