Biography

John was probably baptised 4 June 1661 at Maiden Newton, Dorset, son of Robert Henning and Sarah.[1]

He married 1st Margaret Achym of Pelynt, Cornwall.[2][3] Together they had eight children:

He married 2nd Susanna Good, widow, 2 December 1719 at Toller Fratrum.[2][13]

"John Henning Widdower and Sussana Good, widdow, both of the parish of Maiden Newton."[2]

John died in 1728 and was buried 27 March 1728 at Maiden Newton.[2][14]

In his will dated 20 January 1722/3 and proved 9 April 1728, he leaves bequests to:[2][4]

Mrs. Susanna Henning, my wife, "30 pounds/ann, to be pd out of my estate in Notten"
John Henning, son, a ring
Robert Henning, son, a ring
Edmund Henning, Thomas Henning, and Ursula Henning, my three children all my leasehold estate and they to be execs.

Henning Clans of England

In 1575 John Henning purchased the estate, Poxwell Manor, near Weymouth, Dorset.

He and his descendants lived at Poxwell Manor for almost 350 years.

John Henning married Ursula Achyn of Pelynt, Cornwall
Edmund of Frome Whitfield, married Anne, d/o William Masterman
Robert of Alton Pancras, married Jane, d/o Thos.Spratt of Woodsford Castle
Edmund of Poxwell, married Elizabeth, d/o Robert Wansborough
Martha, d/o Edmund, married Charles Buxton

Poxwell is a hamlet, was formerly in the possession of Cerne Abbey, straddling the A353 on two sharp bends approximately 6 miles East of Weymouth.

The Manor House, set back from the road and fronted by hedging, was the seat of the Henning family.
