1944 Aug 30 Argus: THE LATE MRS VERA CAMPBELL

The late Mrs Vera Campbell, wife of Police Sergeant T. R. Campbell, of Burwood, whose death was referred to briefly in last issue, was a native of Singleton, being a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Wm. Henry, who lived in Frederick Street. She was 44 years of age. Death followed a miner operation performed a fortnight earlier. Deceased was married in Singleton, where her husband was in the police force, and left here about 23 years ago for East Maitland. After a residence there for 10 years, her husband was appointed to Gerringong, Thirroul, Corrimal, Richmond, and Burwood in turn. In each place the couple won the esteem and respect of the people, and a send-off was accorded on their departure from town to town. The late Mrs Campbell was actively associated with patriotic duties in Burwood, and was a staunch adherent of the Methodist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Miss Shirley Campbell. A son Lieut. Warren Campbell, A.1.P., after seeing active service in New Guinea, was accidentally killed in Queensland last November. It is a strange coincidence that deceased passed away on the eighth anniversary of her mother's death. Mr Chas. Henry (Singleton) and Mr Hilton Henry (Werris Creek) are brothers and Mrs T. R. Kirkham (Wagga) a sister of deceased. Sympathy is extended to the bereaved. The remains were cremated at Rookwood yesterday afternoon.
