In the 1860 US census, Edmund is 37 years old and his wife, Mary, 28. Children listed are Preston, 6; Bell, 4; Emma, 2; and Francis 1 month. Also living with the family was "P. Fisher" ( Patrick Henry Fisher), the then 17-year-old son of his older sister, Martha.[1]
In the 1865 Iowa State Gazetteer[2] he is listed as living in Pierceville, Iowa, which on Google Maps[3] shows up as farm land just north of Bonaparte.
From land records in the Marion County courthouse in Keosauqua, IA, we know that Edmund farmed land just north of Bonaparte, IA. According to those records, he began selling parts of his land, including some to his wife, the significance of which is unclear, in the 1860s and moved across the state to Mills County, IA. However, a thorough review of newspaper records, county land records, marriage and death records, and burial records revealed no further references to Edmund. His wife eventually moved to Perry, IA. She died in Indianapolis (perhaps while visiting friends or relatives?) and is buried in Perry, but there is no available record of where Edmund died and is buried.
