Hugh Henry, Sr. was born circa 1730 and living in Pittsylvania county, Virginia at the time of the American Revolutionary War. Hugh took the Oath of Allegiance to the cause of the Patriots, in Pittsylvania county, in 1777. [1] Hugh is honored for his Patriotic Service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as DAR Ancestor #A132376. DAR records indicate that Hugh died before July, 1808, in Robertson county, Tennessee and that his wife's name was Mary Donelson. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of their son, Hugh Henry, Jr. who married Elizabeth Tommalson; and David Henry, who married Pricilla (?nee) [2]

Researchers Notes

Hugh Henry, Jr. is found on the United States Census of 1820, living in Robertson county, Tennessee. [3]

Note: there are problems with the Find A Grave memorial [1] The manager of the Find A Grave memorial is conflating Hugh Henry, who married Mary Donelson with James Hugh Henry, the son of Alexander Henry and Jean Robertson. (Everyone wants to belong to the family and be related to Patrick Henry) So THAT James Hugh Henry is found on WikiTree here: [2]

It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Hugh by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Hugh:

Mary Donelson-153 has been attached to three husbands with the name Hugh Henry. Only one is the correct one and needs some research. It appeared Mary was the one in the Grave memorial I added the source for. The Hugh Henry they have attached her to appears to be Henry-7801, born in Scotland. The Margaret Donald to Gov. Patrick Henry dated 1790 states conclusively that there were only two sons and three daughters, so I'm removing the unsourced children, including this one from Henry-257 and Robertson-270
