Biography

Alexis Henry was a Canadian First Peoples and member of the Metis Nation.

Alexis was born about 1833.

Death date is completely uncertain, but because of the new laws, and threat to delete (or unlist) profiles without death dates (however impossible it may be that they would still be alive), I had to add a 'death date'. This makes connecting the correct people to their profiles an extra task. Death date for this person's profile is unknown. Please be patient while I research the correct date.

Children (with Alexis Henry), according to the Glenbow Museum, Warren Sinclair's Metis Genealogy: Narcisse Henry (b. 1859 Red River Settlement, Assiniboia), Marie A Henry (b. 1862 Red River Settlement, Assiniboia), Marie Henry (b. 1864 Red River Settlement, Assiniboia), Josephte Henry (b. 1867 Red River Settlement, Assiniboia). Kipling Collection, fol. 458.

I have been trying to (better) source this profile (and family line), and have run into some issues.

I found mistakes on Warren Sinclair's Metis Genealogy (through the Henry line, shown by sourcing Government of Canada Metis scrip files), and although even the most highly touted Genealogists can make mistakes (being human), I am still inclined to use Sinclair's genealogy as a way to look for clues as to where to find sources to corroborate the information. This is a work in progress, and I am constantly updating (as I find sources). Please be patient.

Looking at the Warren Sinclair's Metis Genealogy file, Under "?Henry & ? Henry") Marie is listed as married to Alexis Henry. I do see her as being married to Moise Goulet (son of Jacques Goulet and Louise Versailles) - in another Sinclair file (under M-8736-17, "BEAUCHAMP, Pierre & Marie Morin" [1]- Warren Sinclair's Metis genealogy is showing Marie Beauchamp (daughter of Pierre and Marie Comtois). I have now found a corroborating source (1881 census).

Alexis and Marie split up, and Marie remarried (Moise Goulet) and had children (which I will add sources for). Marie took two of the children with her (Narcisse and Marie) to her new household (which is shown on the 1818 census). Alexis remarried to Rosalie St Denis.

Research Notes

Warren Sinclair's Metis Genealogy has an Alexis Henry (fl.1851) married to Marie Ducharme (fl.1851): "Alexis Henry, born ? (Metis), Marie Ducharme ? (Metis). Child Alphonse Henry, born 10th Aug, 1851 St. Vital, Assiniboia. Married to Antoine Vandal (born 1848). Series 2 Descendancy tables. - 1997-1999. File: M-8736-340 "HENRY, Alexis & Marie Ducharme"[5]

Under Warren Sinclair's Metis Genealogy, Glenbow Museum, Series 2 Descendancy tables. - 1997-1999, File: M-8736-339 "HENRY, ? & ?"- it shows Alexis Henry (son of Alexis Henry and Marie Daunais) as being married to Marie Beauchamp (who was born in 1837 at the Red River settlement). NAC Reel C-14929 (Alexis Honore), Sprague and Frye, table 1 no. 2188.

The Henry (dit honore, dit allary dit allard) family are difficult to work with. There are 2 "Alexander Henry"- both of whom are well 'known' in historical documents. One Alexander Henry is called "Alexander Henry The Elder", he is not to be confused with "Alexander Henry The Younger"- nor is "The Elder" the father of "The Younger". Alexander Henry The Younger is Alexander Henry The Elder's nephew.

I am including this information here because this line goes to "Alexander Henry The Elder", though the Metis families are also connected through "The Younger"- and people may cross family lines by accident. Make sure you check, recheck, and check again, which children belong to which line... They are cousins in some form, or another, but please attach lines as best you can. Hopefully we can all sort this huge mess.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Alexis by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Alexis:
