Biography

Antoine was born around 1736. He was the son of Pierre Henri and Anne Aucoin. [1]

He was listed at 16 years of age on the 1752 La Roque census at Anse de la Boullotierre, Isle St. Jean, Acadia (present-day Prince Edward Island) where the family had arrived 14 months earlier. They were the only family recorded in that village. There were 9 children in the household. [2]

He married Françoise Dugas, daughter of Joseph Dugas and Anne-Marie Hébert, around 1758, just before the deportation of thousands of Acadians from Isle Saint-Jean to France. [1]

Antoine, Françoise and Olivier Dugas, the 9-year-old son Baptiste, were deported to France in 1758. Antoine's parents and siblings were also deported. The conditions were horrific on the ship. They disembarked in Saint-Malo on 23 January 1759. [3] Antoine and Françoise died at the hospital a few days after arrival. [1]His mother Anne and his youngest sibling Marie Josephe died at sea during the crossing. His father and four of his siblings (Pierre, Timothé, Jeanne, Elisabeth) also died at the hospital within a few weeks.
