During the1860 census, Alexander Hensley was listed at age 4 in the Wayne County, Virginia household of James Stith & wife Jane.[1]
This household was enumerated as #289 and household #287 was Elias Hensley but Elias’ will didn’t mention Alexander. John Stith had no known relationship with any other Hensley.
It is unclear when Alexander moved to Lawrence County, Indiana, how he got there, or why. It seems likely he had family there. Sally Hensley, the widow of Benjamin Hensley, resided in Lawrence County and she may have been Alexander's grandmother, but this is not proven by any record.
Alexander married to Molly Ray in Lawrence County, Indiana in 1878[2] During the 1880 census, Alex Hensley was residing in the household of his widowed mother-in-law, Jane Ray, in Spice Valley of Lawrence County, Indiana.[3]
Alex moved West and was residing in Nebraska before the February 1896 birth of son Ivan.[4] His son Shelby had married in Burt County, Nebraska in 1901.[5]His daughter Jane then married to Walter Miller in Monona County, Iowa in 1902.[6] By 1910 Alex had moved to Minnesota.[7] He passed there, in Cass County, in 1940.
