Daughter of James Hepburn of Mainshill, Morham, Haddingtonshire, by his spouse Margaret Sinclair, daughter of John Sinclair, Master of Caithness.
Elizabeth Hepburn is a great-granddaughter of Sir Patrick Hepburn of Waughton (d.before April 1549). She is also a gt.gt.gt.grandaughter of Sir Robert Lauder of The Bass (died before February 1508), so being a distant cousin of her husband, who is Sir Robert's great-grandson. Elizabeth's grandfather, Rev. George Hepburn, is a half-brother of Adam Hepburn of Smeaton. According to the transfer Deed of Mainshill to Elizabeth and her husband, John Lauder (as part of the post-nuptial marriage contract), her mother Margaret held Mainshill "of the fee and liferent" - possibly in right of her husband.
She probably died a long time after 1598.
