It is quite often recorded on genealogy websites that George Kells (1733 - 1829) of Killynaff, County Cavan, and eldest son of Robert Kells (1699 – 1805), married Sarah Hepburn of Dublin. This is incorrect. Sarah Hepburn [spinster] did marry a George Kells in St. Bride’s Parish Church of Ireland, Dublin, on 19 December 1752. At that time George, a linen merchant, was living in Dublin but he came originally from Grange Oneilland, Portadown, County Armagh – a different branch of the Kells family. Sarah was the daughter of John Hepburn, professor of mathematics at Trinity College, Dublin. Sarah and George had at least a daughter and 4 sons (Mary, Francis, John, George & William). Sarah was born about 1726 and died in Dublin on 24 March 1797.
