We regret to have to announce the unexpected death of the Countess of Clanwilliam, sister of the Right Hon. Sidney Herbert, M.P. and of the Marchioness of Ailesbury, the Countess of Dunmore and Viscountess de Vecci. She had been staying with the Countess of Dunmore and family at their seat in the north of Scotland, and was taken seriously ill while on her return south. The Right Hon. Sidney Herbert MP and the other relatives of the Countess were immediately telegraphed to, but before they could meet her the Countess died.
The Countess was the eldest daughter of George Augustus, 11th Earl of Pembroke, by his second marriage with the Countess Catherine, only daughter of his Excellency Simon Count Woronzow (formerly Ambassador from Russia). Her ladyship was born on the 3lst March 1809 and married on the 6th July 1810 the Earl of Clanwilliam, by whom she had issue; a daughter Lady Selina Vernon, married in 1854 to Mr. Granville Edward Vernon, and four sons the eldest, Viscount Gilford is a lieutenant in the Royal Navy and who gained his promotion by his gallantry in the recent operations on the Chinese waters, born in October1832.
By the demise of the estimable Countess many families of rank are placed in mourning.
