Sarah Long was the last of 8 children born to George Washington Herbert and Sarah Long November 24, 1858 in Connellsville. Her Great Grandfather John Herbert came to Connellsville from New Jersey shortly after the American Revolution. She married John Adam Armstrong at the age of 25 on November 16, 1883 in Connellsville. They had 3 daughters Helen Isabelle, Mary Knox, and Jean Bowman. They also raised 2 of her nephews children after their parents both died of TB in Brownsville, Pa. They were Roger and Herbert Knox. These boys were probably nephews to Philander S Knox a US senator from Brownsville, Pa. Sarah and her daughters lived together until Sarah passed away in 1937.
