John was born on 25th August 1830 and baptised on 6th February 1831at the Wesleyan Ebenezer Chapel, Cheltenham, Gloucester, England. He was the son of John Heritage and Mary Unknown. [1]
John Heritage's father, John was a stonemason living in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England with his wife, Mary and children Mary (15) Emma (15) John (10) Caleb (8) and William (4) at the time of the 1841 census. Neither John snr. nor Mary were born in Gloucestershire, but all of the children were. [2]
John Heritage, his wife, Mary, Hannah, Mary Ann, Emma, Charlotte, William, Caleb and John junior sailed to Port Leschenault (later named Australind) in Australia aboard the ship "Trusty", arriving on 8 December 1842. [3]
John's Spouse was Maria Dignum (1832 - 30 Apr 1910) who he married on 26th January 1855 at St. Mary Magdalene'S, Adelaide, South Australia. [4][5]
John Heritage died on 29th September 1900 and is buried in Ballarat New Cemetery, 1233 Doveton Street, North Invermay Park, Victoria, Australia. [6]
Trusty was a three masted rig weighing 366 tons & measuring 111.3 × 26.11 × 19.6 feet with a crew of 23. The Trusty made 4 voyages to Australind & Fremantle between 1841and 1848. [7]
