Wesley Molyneaux Heron was born on January 31, 1915 to Latham Blacker Heron and Effie Molyneaux in Buffalo, Erie, New York. [1] His father was a routing clerk for a lens factory in 1920. [2]
By 1925, Wesley and his family lived on a farm in rural New Albion, Cattaraugus, New York, south of Buffalo. [3] His widowed grandfather, Richard Miles Heron, was a part of their household in 1930. [4]
Wesley, a 20-year-old farmer residing in Dayton, Cattaraugus, New York, married Helen Mae Gleason, age 19, a resident of Otto, Cattaraugus, New York, on March 30, 1935. They were married by Reverend William C. Baxter in Gowanda, Cattaraugus, New York, in the presence of Carol Heron, Wesley's sister of Dayton, and De Lyle Aust of Little Valley. [5][6]
In 1940, Wesley and Helen and their two children lived in the Township of Leon, Cattaraugus County, New York. He was a farmer. In the following years, he and Helen had two more children. [7]
In 1943 Wesley purchased a dairy farm in the Town of New Albion, which he operated until 1958. In addition to farming, Wesley worked for GLF Cooperative/Agway, Inc. for over 40 years. He was the Town of New Albion Supervisor for 21 years. He also served on the board of the Cattaraugus County Soil and Water Conservation District from 1964 to 1983 and a member of the Farm Bureau. Wesley was a member of the Cattaraugus Methodist Church and served as treasurer for many years.
Wesley died on February 22, 2002 in Olean, Cattaraugus, New York and was buried in Liberty Park Cemetery, Cattaraugus, New York. [8][9] Helen, his wife of 60 years, preceded him in death in April 1995.
