Biography

James was born in 1954. He passed away in 2014.

James Edward “Herby” Herr, 59, died Wednesday, March 19, 2014, in Keokuk.

He was born May 15, 1954, in Keokuk, the son of Raymond Joseph and Martha Ida Parks Herr.

He was married to Jennie Bryant in 1984 in Alexandria, Mo. They later divorced.

Herby graduated from Keokuk Senior High with the Class of 1972. He received his associates degree from Southeastern Community College in Keokuk and attended Western Illinois University in Macomb, Ill.

Herby had been employed at Alliance Pattern in Keokuk for 16 years. In 2000, Herby opened P.C. Consultants in Keokuk.

Herby was a member of the Elks Club, Lions Club, Keokuk Yacht Club and Southside Boat Club in Keokuk. He was a former member of the Keokuk Chamber of Commerce and a former board member of the United Way. He was very active in community fundraisers.

Herby enjoyed playing pool, golf, boating and watching the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was a good cook and loved grilling out. Herby liked to listen to blues, rock and jazz music. He was a people person and enjoyed being with his friends. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. Herby lived life to the fullest and touched the lives of many people with his smile, sense of humor and generosity.

He is survived by two sons, Raymond Herr of Keokuk and John Herr (fiancée Sara Eastman) of Iowa City; brother, Jerry (Dona) Herr of Keokuk; his life partner, Robin Fugate of Keokuk; two nephews, Jeff Herr of Keokuk and Randy Herr of Mount Pleasant; and great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a great-nephew, Kyhl Herr.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Vigen Memorial Home in Keokuk, with the Rev. Mike Shea officiating. Burial will be in Scandinavian Cemetery in rural Argyle.

Visitation will be after 1 p.m. Sunday, with family meeting with friends from 5 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

The James Herr memorial fund has been established.
