Wilma was born in Carroll County, Ohio, in 1898, the daughter of William Herrington and Joanna Ferguson.[1] Her father passed away about 5 months before she was born, and she and her seven surviving siblings were raised by their mother. Wilma was enumerated (age 1) in her mother's household in Augusta, Carroll County, Ohio, in 1900[2] and (age 12) in 1910.[3]
In 1919, when she was 20 years old, she married John Briggs.[4] Wilma and John had four children, then divorced in the early 1930s:

Wilma passed away in 1977[5] and is buried at Grandview Cemetery in Mahoning County, Ohio.[6]
