Biography

Johann(John) Stephen was born in 1896. He was the son of Nikolas Herrmann and Julianna Henke. Johann was the first son of his parents to emigrate from Neumagen, Germany to America. His mother, Julianna purchased his ticket. He arrived at Ellis Island August 11, 1911 at the age of 14. He was released to his father's brother Uncle Jacob Johann Herrmann. They went to Zainesville, Ohio, where his uncle and family lived. He later moved to NYC to live with Uncle Mathias(Matthew). Johann married Katherine Herrmann (1898-1971) on October 28,1920. They had three children,1. Elizabeth(Betty), 2.John Nicholas, 3. Edward Stephen.John had his own Ice cream parlor, which he closed in 1935. Later he and his brother, Peter worked in the building of the NYC subways. He passed away in 1961.
