Biography

Randal was born about 1905. He passed away about 1978. He was the Manager of the Standard Bank in Adelaide, Easter Cape and had a farm on about 4000 acres near the 3 Sisters mountain around the Tarkastad area where he bred Angora goats, sheep Afrikana cattle. As a yougster 5-8 years I spent time with him on his farm, there was no electricity and parrafin lamps as a means of lighting were at night. Hot water for washing came from pots heated on a huge kitchen stove by a maid who was our cook. My most fondest and woderful memories were playing with the Quidines,(African teenages - Piccanines are minors) Learning to shoot with my Father's .333 Mauser Rifle, learning how to toughen my feet and walk barefoot oblivios to dorings (thorns) eat as much Kudu biltong as I wanted always plentiful hanging in strips in a rondavel. Go out hunting to shoot Guinea Fowl, Rabbit and Dassies for the african children and watch Aardvark's on the hunt and attack ant heaps. This is the Africa I learnt as a small boy to love and respect by my Uncle Randal who treated me more as his son
