• daughter of noted physicist Heinrich Hertz & his wife Elisabeth Doll^[1]
• notable biologist^[2]
• due to her Jewish ancestry she was no longer allowed to teach in Germany. Thanks to the endorsements of Max Planck & Wolfgang Koehler she was allowed to continue her lab work^[2]
• 1935 emigrated to the UK and continued research at Cambridge University^[2]
• never married or had children^[1] and sadly, died alone and in poverty in 1975^[2]
