Jacob E Hess was born 22 Aug 1847 in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, United States.
The son of Michael Rathvon & Mary Magdalena (Eshleman) Hess, in 1860 he was a farm laborer living with his family at Safe Harbor, Conestoga Township, Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 3" tall and had black hair and gray eyes.
A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service at Lancaster February 15, 1865, as a private with Co. I, 195th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company January 31, 1866.
He married Harriet (Vandermark) Hess (1846 - 1930) on 12 Oct 1867 in Palestine, Indiana, United States .[1]
and fathered George Washington (b. 04/01/69), Estella May (b. 05/21/75), Nathan William (b. 01/10/78), Cora Geolila (b. 05/01/81), Nellie Hellen (b. 06/08/85), Martin Van Buren (b. 05/10/87), Asanel Irvin (b. 04/07/89), Leonard Harvey (1891 - 1984), and Stewart (b. 1892).
By no later than 1900, he was living in Spearville, Ford County, Kansas.
He died 5 Oct 1928 in Spearville, Ford, Kansas, United States and was buried in Silent Land Cemetery, Spearville, Ford County, Kansas, USA.[2]
