Biography

William was born in 1884. He was the son of Lavan Hess and Ida Keeler. He passed away in 1956.^[1] In 1900 age 16 William lived with parents and was a meat peddler. in 1905 age 21 NY census has him living in Corning, Stuben co. NY as a nephew of George Hess and they are both Glass polishers at the Corning glass plant. He married in 1906 to Maude Young Edwards and they had a daughter Theresa Maude Hess April 1909. They lived in Fulton, Schoharie Co. Census says she is 12 months old which would mean she was born in 1909. They are living in town of Fulton, Schoharie Co. NY and he is a sawer at a saw mill. In 1920 they are now living on Ryer St. in Chatham, Columbia county, NY and he is owner of a butcher shop. In 1925 Maude 42 and Theresa 21are living on Grove St. in Middleburgh NY and William is Still in Chatham and is divorced. In 1930 William is remarried to Elsie B Howes born 9-24-1879 and died 8-26-1972 and they live in Pittsfield, Berkshire Co. Mass. and he is owner of a Meat market and they also run a boarding house with 8 boarders. it says he first married at 22 and Elsie 1st married at 21 so this must be her 2nd marriage. In 1930 Maude 48 and Theresa 20 are living on Union St. in Middleburgh. Theresa was a math teacher at middleburgh central school her entire life and lived in this house.
