Anna, was the second daughter of Philipp, Landgraf von Hessen, and his first wife, Christine of Saxony, and was born at Kassel 26 October 1529, about 5 o'clock in the morning.[1]

She was betrothed in November 1544 to her second cousin, Wolfgang, Pfalzgraf und Herzog zu Zweibrucken and married 24 February 1545 (by proxy?) and in person (?) at Cassel 8 March 1545. The wedding was celebrated in Zweibrücken on 4 February 1546. He was the son of Ludwig II, Pfalzgraf zu Zweibrücken, and Elisabeth, Landgräfin von Hessen.[1]

They had the following issue:[2]

  1. Christina, born 29 February 1546 at Zweibrücken;
  2. Philipp Ludwig, born 2 October 1547, founded line of Neuburg;
  3. Johann, born 18 May 1550, founded line of Zweibrücken;
  4. Dorothea Agnes, born 16 November 1551 at Amberg;
  5. Elisabeth, born 31 March 1553 at Amberg, died there 21 April 1554 and is buried in St Martin, Amberg;
  6. Anna, born 2 June 1554 at Amberg;
  7. Elisabeth, born 14 June 1555 at Amberg;
  8. Otto Heinrich, born 22 July 1556 founded line of Hilpoltstein;
  9. Friedrich, born 11 August 1557, founded line of Parkstein;
  10. Barbara, born 27 July 1559 at Neuburg an der Donau;
  11. Karl, born 4 September 1560, founded line of Birkenfeld;
  12. Maria Elisabeth, born 4 October 1561 at Neuburg an der Donau;
  13. Susanna, born 13 November 1564 at Neuburg and der Donau.

Wolfgang died 11 June 1569 at Nessun, near Limoges, and was originally buried in Angouleme. His body was transferred to the Stadtkirche in Meisenheim in 1571. Anna died in Meisenheim 10 July 1591 and was buried there on 26 July 1591.[1]
