Page 20 of John Hester Ancestry by Searl states: "Since John, his sister Abigail and brother William D Hester married grandchildren of William Bennington, Sr. (1726-1801) some items of interest relative to that family and the Robert Smith family should be mentioned. These two families with the Hesters, Gilberts, Hillis's, etc were among the first settlers of Fleming Co, KY. In fact William Bennington, Sr. was the oldest man living in the county as he was born in 1726 or 1729 in Harford Co, Maryland. Robert Smith was the 2nd oldest as he was born in 1733 and came to America as a Scotch sailor. In the first plot of Flemingsburg naming streets and alleys, it is shown that William Bennngton owned some of the lots.
