"The wife of Absolom Fields was a native of Weakley Co., TN and died in Weakley Co., TN in 1843 at the age of 35." [1]
If this is true it casts doubt on this Lucy Hester's relation to the Hesters of Granville Co., NC, and since at the time of her birth, Weakley Co. was Chickasaw Indian Territory, it leads one to wonder if she were not part native-american. (Weakley Co. in land not ceded by the Chickasaw until 1818; Weakley did not become a county until 1823; adjacent to Weakley Co. were lands of dual occupation by white and native from 1805. I suspect that Lucy could have been born in NC and later of Williamson Co., TN where she married Absolom Fields. However, if she was born in the lands which became Weakley County this might indicate she was of native american ancestry. Oral tradition of the Logan-Fields family is that the sisters Martha and Matilda were 1/4 Indian. The land in Weakley Co. TN was in the name of Lucy and not Absolom Fields, suggesting she had inherited it from her parents.
"Reuben Edmonston and his brother-in-law, John Bradshaw and family were the first settlers of Weakley County. The year was 1819 when these families came to Weakley settling along Mud Creek which is about six miles west of the present day, Dresden. They built the first log cabin in the county. Mr. Bradshaw raised the first patch of corn." [2]
