John Hewit was born in about 1840, probably in Eccleston, Lancashire. He was the son of James Hewitt and Mary (Arnold) Hewitt.

By June 6th 1841, the family was living in Eccleston Hill, Eccleston. James was an agricultural labourer, as were the two sons old enough to work, Henry and William.

John may have died in about 1842, aged 2, and been buried on 6 Mar 1842 at Prescot St Mary's - but if so, either his birth was registered well late or else his age had been misremembered, because the age of the child buried was recorded as 2 years 11 months; the child's address was Prescot. So this may not be the right John Hewitt.
