Lester Hiatt, 83, 3604 Burlington Drive, died Tuesday in Ball Hospital after a long illness. He was born in Muncie, attended city schools and spent his entire life in this area.

Mr. Hiatt was associated with Hiatt & Floyd Masonry Co. for several years before retiring in 1965. Earlier he worked with Hemmingray Glass Co., later known as Owens-Illinois. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and Brickmasons Union Local 19.

Surviving are his wife, Florence; two sons, Robert E. Hiatt Sr. and Donald L. Hiatt, both of Muncie; a stepson, Jerry Needler, Muncie; a sister, Evelyn Shane, Muncie; three brothers, Charles and Donald, both of Muncie, and Earl Hiatt, Mount Pleasant; seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Lawrence Catholic Church with Rev. Louis Heitz officiating. Burial will be in Elm Ridge Cemetery. Calling hours are 3-5 and 7-9 p.m. today at Meeks Mortuary, where the Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. 1
