Biography

Joseph Hiatt was born on January 09, 1843 in Davidson County, North Carolina. His parents were Willis Hiatt and Sarah Brinkley. He married Gazelle Wagner on February 02, 1866 Together they had 8 children:

  3. Sarah Hiatt
  4. Phillip Hiatt
  5. Mary Hiatt
  6. Carlis Hiatt
  7. Joseph Hiatt
  8. Fannie Hiatt

He died on November 12, 1913 in Lexington, Davidson County, North Carolina. He was buried at the Midway United Methodist Church Cemetery, Davidson Co., NC.

Will of J. A. Hyatt. June 20th 1913 .

I hereby make and declare this to be my last will and testament. 1st. I hereby will and bequeath all of my personal property of every form and description to my two daughters, Floise Myers, Wife of W. L. Meyers, and Fannie B. Hyatt, to be equally divided between them. 2nd. I hereby will and devise my real estate as follows: A tract of land containing 6 acres more or less, known as the Lizzie Wagner tract (for boundaries for which see deed from Mary H. Evans, administratrix of J. A. Evans, dec'd.) to my son J. E. Hyatt in fee simple forever subject to this crediation, it shall be a charge upon the land, that out of the rents and profits of this lot of land he shall help to support his sister Fannie B. Hyatt while she remains single.

I will and devise to my son Geo. C. Hyatt a tract of land of about 6 acres known as part of the Willis Hyatt place, the boundaries to which can be found in the division of his land adjoining the lands now owned by Geo. C. Hyatt and Jno. Thomas.

I will and devise 59 acres of land known as the Willis Hyatt place adjoining its lands of Willie Wagoner and others its boundaries to which see deed from Willis Hyatt to J. A. Hyatt registered June 20th, 1913, in the Register of Deeds office of Davidson County and dated the 31st day of March 1886. This tract I will and devise to Philip Lopp Hyatt and Carlos F. Hyatt to be equally divided between them in fee simple forever.

The devise to J. E. Hyatt issued on the condition that he pay for all my debts and funeral expenses and these are made a charge upon the land.

I give nothing to Grant Hyatt on account of advancements heretofore made him in my lifetime. In the event my wife G. Angeline Hyatt should outlive me I will and devise all the above lands to her for her life and after her death to pass under the other clauses of the will to parties as herein set out. I hereby appoint my son J. E. Hyatt as my executor to carry out this my last will and testament. In witness thereof I the said J. A. Hyatt do hereunto set my hand and seal this the 20th day of June, 1913. Proved the 15th day of November, 1913.
