Biography
Nora was born November 18, 1921[1]
in Frankfurt, Deutschland.[2]
Her parents were Bernhard Hichberger and Paula (Baum) Hichberger.[3]
Nora escaped the Holocaust by leaving her parents and home when she was fifteen years old to emigrate to the United States. After her travel documents were issued October 14, 1936 in Stuttgart, Nora left on December 29, 1936 from Bremen, traveling aboard the M/S Oakland. She arrived February 2, 1937 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, United States. Nora, whose occupation was listed as "household", was 5' 5" tall, had brown hair and blue eyes, and was neither an anarchist nor a polygamist. Her nearest relative in Deutschland was her father, Bernh. Hichberger, who lived at Unterindau 45 in Franfurt o/Main and she planned to join her uncle, Alex Newman, who lived at 86 Fremont Pl. in Los Angeles, Cal.[2]
In 1940, Nora was living with her uncle, Alexander Newman, and his housekeeper in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, United States.[4]
She was still living at her uncle's address, now using the name Anita Newman, when she became a United States citizen September 24, 1943.[5]
Anita married Albert Polleck February 14, 1946 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, United States.[6]
After Albert died December 4, 1950,[7]
Anita married Walter Lowe January 13, 1952 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, United States.[3]
December 1, 1960, a new certificate of citizenship was issued, indicating that Anita's name had been changed from Anita Newman to Anita Lowe by marriage January 13, 1952.[8]
Anita died October 10, 1990 in Los Angeles, Los Angeles, California, United States.[1]
