Editor Spectator: Seeing you had a correspondent from this county made me a little slow to write. I shall venture, however, to send you the following items: On the 9th day of August, Rev. S. S. Ryder was married to Miss Lizzie Hickman, both of this county. Officiating minister, Rev. Mr. Ruff, of Highland.

Grove in Bath county on last Saturday, aged 79 years and 7 months. [on 2 Jan 1903] ...Mr. Ryder leaves no children, but a wife, one brother Aaron Ryder of Frost, W.Va., and two or three brothers in the West. ... Mr. Ryder's first wife was a daughter of Andrew Lockridge, late of Jacksons river and the one who survives him was Miss Lizzie Hickman. [who died after 2 Jan 1903] He was born at the old Lightner homestead near Valley Center, now owned by Mr. Anthony Lighter.
