Biography

Joseph Hicks was born in the Colony of Victoria (1851-1900)

Joseph Hicks, son of Thomas Henry Hicks and Ellen Pike, was born in 1887 at Corop, Victoria. ^[1]

Joseph married Daisy Townshend in 1913 in Geraldton, Western Australia. ^[2] Their marriage was reported in the Western Mail (Perth, WA : 1885 - 1954) Fri 15 Aug 1913 Page 35 ^[3]

HICKS—TOWNSHEND.— On August 1, at St. Xavier's Church, Geraldton, Joseph Hicks (of Lands and Surveys), eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. T. Hicks, of Rushworth, Victoria, to Daisy, only daughter of the late James Townshend, of Wandarri, W.A.

Joseph died in 1947, aged 59 years, at Claremont, Western Australia. ^[4] His death was reported in The West Australian (Perth, WA : 1879 - 1954) Mon 17 Feb 1947 Page 1 ^[5]

HICKS. — On February 14, 1947 at his residence, 15 Langsford-street, Claremont, Joseph, late Asst. Surveyor-General, Lands Department, Perth, dearly beloved husband of Daisy, loved father of Joan, and dearly loved grandfather of Helen; aged 59 years.

HICKS (Joseph). — On February 14, 1947 at his late residence, Claremont, loved and highly respected cousin of Rev. Norman and Claudia Hicks.

Manfully he set his face to truth and right.

HICKS. — On February 14, Joseph, at 15 Langsford-street, Claremont, dearly beloved brother-in-law of Len and Ve Townshend (Toodyay).

As he died so he lived, everyone's friend.

HICKS. — The Friends of the late Mr. Joseph Hicks, of 15 Langsford-street, Claremont, formerly Assistant Surveyor-General, Lands Department, Perth, are respectfully informed that a Methodist Service will be held in the Crematorium Chapel, Karrakatta, at 11.30 o'clock THIS (Monday) MORNING. The Cortege will move from our Chapel, Hay-street, Perth, at 11.10 o'clock. By request no flowers. DONALD J. CHIPPER AND SON. B3232 and B3772.
