Biography

1776 Project
Sergeant David Hicks Jr served with Clark's Illinois Regiment, Virginia State Troops during the American Revolution.

David Hicks Jr is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A055001.

David Hicks was born around 1756 in North Carolina.[1] He was a son of David Aaron Hicks Sr. and Sarah Elizabeth (Dennis) Hicks[2]

During the American Revolution, he enlisted on 25 Feb 1779 and served as a Sergeant under Captain Robert Todd, in Colonel George Rogers Clark's Illinois Regiment.[1][3] He is recognized on the Illinois Roll of Honor as a solder who served with Crockett's Regiment during the Revolutionary War and was buried at Greene, Illinois.[4]

Around 1787, he married Nancy Thomas, at Tuckahoe Creek, Henrico County, Virginia.[1][2] Here are some of the children of David and Nandy Hicks:[1]

  • Vines, m. Betsey Tunnell
  • Barbara Ann, m. Joel Gilmore Jennings

David Hicks passed away around 1840 at White Hall, Green County, Illinois.[1][5] A second memorial displays the original gravestone before placement of a modern gravestone.[6][7]
