Amelia, daughter of George Hicks and Jane Prat, was born and christened at Upton-cum-Chalvey in 1858. [1] In 1861 she is with her parents, five brothers and three sisters living at Upton-cum-Chalvey. [2] In 1871 she is recorded as living at 26, High Street, Langley with her uncle James Small, a nurseryman. [3] She had become a nurse maid in the household of Robert Schofield, barrister, living at 27, Brunswick Terrace, Harrogate by 1881[4] and in School, Sandon, Staffordshire her brother David's household in 1891.[5]
By 1901 she is living in Grand Parade, Brighton. She is Head of household, aged 41, and living with her are her nephew and niece, Edith and Harold and three boarders and three visitors which looks as if she is running a boarding house. [6]
and by 1911 she is in Hillingdon with her brother Harry living on private means. She is now 52 years old and unmarried [7] She died in 1934 aged 76 in Surrey. [8]
