James was born in 1810. He is the eldest son of James Champion Hicks and Frances Searle.
In 1837 he was curate at Piddletrenthide and became vicar there in 1845, a post he held for forty years. Dorset Ancestors: John Hicks and Dorset Historic Churches Trust (2019). Issue 14, Page 8.
In the 1851 census James (age 40) was the married head of household in Piddletrenthide, Dorset, England.[1]
