Biography

Birth

Jacob was born on September 22, 1841 in the village of Neudorf in the Glückstal district of the Odessa area and Black Sea region of South Russia to Jacob Hieb and Friederike (Deile) Hieb. He was the first of their 9 children. Jacob was baptized on September 25, 1841.[1]


Family

On December 4, 1865, at the age of 24, Jacob married Elisabetha Sattler (1844-1928) in the nearby village of Kassel.[2]

Immigration

On April 12, 1894, at the age of 52, Jacob, his wife, and 9 children arrived in New York aboard the S.S. Spree traveling from Bremen, Germany.[3]


Death

Sometime between 1915 and 1920, around the age of 74-79, Jacob passed away in North Dakota.

Brent Goodman (12/29/21): Death date is determined based on Jacob being shown in the 1915 North Dakota census with his wife Elisabeth, but Elisabeth shown as a widow in the 1920 US census.
