Biography

Birth

Barbara was born on June 14, 1846 in the village of Neudorf in the Glückstal district of the Odessa area and Black Sea region of South Russia to Balthasar Hieb and Carolina (Ohlauser) Hieb. She was the fifth of their 10 children. Barbara was baptized on June 24, 1846.[1]


Family

On January 17, 1864, at the age of 17, Barbara married Carl Wahl (1845-1925) in the nearby village of Kassel.[2]

Immigration

On November 19, 1879, at the age of 33, Barbara, her husband, and 5 children arrived in New York aboard the S.S. Gellert traveling from Hamburg, Germany.[3]


Death

On January 18, 1917, at the age of 70, Barbara passed away in Emery, SD. She is buried in Plum Creek Baptist Cemetery in Emery.[4][5]
