Christian was born on December 19, 1856 in the village of Neudorf in the Glückstal district of the Odessa area and Black Sea region of South Russia to Balthasar Hieb and Carolina (Ohlhauser) Hieb. He was the last of their 10 children. Christian was baptized on December 21, 1856.[1]
Immigration
On May 13, 1874, at the age of 17, Christian, his parents, and 1 sibling arrived in Baltimore, MD aboard the S.S. Hermann traveling from Bremen, Germany.[2]

In 1878, around the age of 22, Christian married Katharina Gross (1861-1925).

Death
On July 12, 1929, at the age of 72, Christian passed away in Tripp, SD. He is buried in Friedens Reformed Cemetery in Tripp.[3]
