Biography

Caroline Hieb was born in 1871. She was the daughter of Wilhelm Hieb and Katharina Dockter.[1]

She was born in Russia and immigrated to USA about 1892 to marry her elder sister's widow, on November 8, 1892. She became stepmother to her 7 nieces and nephews and had 11 more children.

Karoline Mayer nee Hieb was born 6 January 1871 in Neudorf, southern Russia, and died 16 July 1941. She was baptised and confirmed in her native village. In August 1892 she came from Russia to Hesmer and married Jakob Mayer, who preceded her in death in 1937. This marriage was blessed with 11 children. Three preceded their mother in death. About three months ago the deceased complained of pains in her side. Several doctors were consulted, but their arts failed them. She died of liver cancer. She leaves behind six sons, Johann, Jakob, Bernhardt, Wilhelm, Otto, and Lenhardt; two daughters, Mrs. Rosina Jundt and Mrs. Lydia Eisenbeiß, as well as four stepdaughters, Mrs. Katharina Gutmiller, Mrs. Karoline Nehlich, Mrs. Magdalena Hieb and Mrs. Christina Kirschenmann. To this are to be added 55 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren. The Lord give succor to those left behind! Hosmer, SD, signed G. Keppler, Minister[2]
