Biography

Birth

Johann was born on October 20, 1872 in the village of Neudorf in the Glückstal district of the Odessa area and Black Sea region of South Russia to Johann Hieb and Alexandra (Bohlaender) Hieb. He was the fourth of their 7 children.[1]


Immigration

On April 22, 1892, at the age of 19, Johann, his parents, and 2 siblings arrived in New York aboard the S.S. Trave traveling from Bremen, Germany.[2]


Family

Johann married three times:
In 1896, at the age of 24, Johann married Maria Hoff (1876-1920)

Children:
  1. Alexandria (1898-1965)
  2. Sophia (1900-1989)
  3. Edward (1902-1971)
  4. Emma (1914-2002)

On July 20, 1922, at the age of 49, Johann married Katharine Schnabel (1884-1943) in Hutchinson County, SD.[3]

On November 27, 1945, at the age of 73, Johann married Katherine Brunmeier (1878-1950) in Brule County, SD.[3]


Death

On December 6, 1960, at the age of 88, Johann passed away in Rochester, MN. He is buried in Riverview Cemetery in Chamberlain, SD.[4][1]

Age 67, living in Bailey, Lyman, SD with his 2nd wife and a step-child. He was working as a farmer and rancher.[13]
